Here are some snaps and a sample of what we have bee working on in K-1. We are really starting to delve more deeply into our units of study in the areas of writing, reading, math and science. Students are coming to school with ocnnections and questions that they clearly take outside of the classroom, which is wonderful to see! Keep up the great conversations!

Science Videos
Hi Everyone,
Today we discussed the concept of same and different in science, we spoke about the job of a scientist which is to be a through observer. After students could explain their role as scientists we broke into small groups to observe what was the same and what was different between two apples. In small groups students worked to share their ideas about their apple set before sharing in a whole group.
Students worked very hard to notice different things and illustrate their findings. This would be a great thing to dialogue about at home as we will continue honing our observation and journaling skills!

Chrome Book Learning
Hola,
This week and last we worked hard to master learning the parts of a computer as well as signing onto a computer. Students did a wonderful job and can now explain the functions of a keyboard, cursor, screen and power button. It would be great if you could practice that at home as well!
Students were able to log onto their first website yesterday, abcya.com, which is a wonderful resource for all of you to explore at home as well. It has a variety of games that help to reinforce reading, writing, and math skills that we are currently working on!
Have a great weekend!

An Exciting Week!
Greetings Everyone!
This has been a busy week so far, we had our first K-1 field trip to Champlain Orchards on Tuesday and our annual health fair today. Students are doing an exceptional job trying new things, asking thoughtful questions, and making connections with their new experiences.
This week we are really focusing on appreciating all of the different jobs and people within our community that help to nourish us and keep us safe. Visiting the orchard was a fabulous way to connect with the delicious apples we get to enjoy here in Vermont and for students to understand all of the work that goes in to growing, sending and sharing this food!
Our health fair this morning did a wonderful job of bringing forth community members ranging from a fire chief to an orienteering expert and even a yoga instructor. Students learned about the functions of a fire truck and ambulance, for some this was their first time seeing these vehicles so it was a great way for them to learn and meet the people who work with them to keep us safe. Yoga helped us to relax and stretch our muscles while time with Mr. Olson showed us how to use a compass. Students took breaks to run the track in a "Challenge by Choice" where they could earn bracelets by jogging or walking the track. We also took time to talk a veteran bus driver who shared some of the jobs and rules that she has and how students can help!
We are looking forward to Four Winds on Friday, have a great week everyone!
