Sharing Writing!

Greetings!

One of the things we have been working on so diligently in sixth grade is the craft of writing. The past three weeks we have been studying poetry, we have sampled from greats such as Walt Whitman and Maya Angelou as well as Dr. Seuss and Eugene Fields. Students explored independently as well as in guided exposure many different styles and mediums of poetry, music was a quick favorite ranging in artists from Dierks Bentley and Beyonce to Billie Holiday and Bob Marley. Students experimented with creating their own versions of free verse, light verse, haiku, rhyme and many more! Here are some samples of students sharing their haikus!

Catching Up Snaps!

Persuasive Writing

Writing is something that we are working very hard to improve in the sixth grade. We are currently working on perfecting our persuasion skills. Students have all chosen their own writing topics ranging from long hair vs. short hair to shutting down tobacco companies. These are some snaps of students evaluating persuasive writing examples.

Student Projects

We have been hard at work creating many connections with our learning through student created projects. We are currently working on finalizing our Greek plays Athena and Arachne and Demeter and Persephone so that we can present them to share with all of you!
