Persuasive Writing
Writing is something that we are working very hard to improve in the sixth grade. We are currently working on perfecting our persuasion skills. Students have all chosen their own writing topics ranging from long hair vs. short hair to shutting down tobacco companies. These are some snaps of students evaluating persuasive writing examples.
Student Projects
We have been hard at work creating many connections with our learning through student created projects. We are currently working on finalizing our Greek plays Athena and Arachne and Demeter and Persephone so that we can present them to share with all of you!

Clearing the Mind
It's NECAP week, this is a famously challenging week for students as we test for three days for two weeks at 90 minutes a session. The time is silent and independent which can be really difficult for students to muster enthusiasm for. To help alleviate some of the stress and boredom that can impact students moods we are spending time outside each morning being active, walking, running and doing team building exercises to help clear the mind and body before testing so that each student can perform at his or her best.
We are not sending home any homework over this week or next, aside form the reading logs which are expected to be handed in and signed each Monday. Please check in with your child and make sure that these are being completed as they are a large part of their reading grade!

Book Projects!
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to give you a heads up that our first major project in sixth grade is due on the 30th of September. Our genre for the month is realistic fiction, students have chosen books and have been reading them independently for the last two weeks.
They have been sent home with a list of possible projects and have also been given the option to do an alternate one of their choosing as long as they approve it through me first. Students have been advised to begin projects this weekend and those who are still finishing books are making schedules with me to finish their books over the course of the next eight days.
